BioBus BBQ (BBBBQ)
Date: Sunday, September 13, 2009
Time: 2:00-5:00PM
Location: Solar One in Stuyvesant Cove Park (East 23rd Street on the East River)
The school year is starting, summer is coming to an end, and its time to join us for the first annual back-to-school BioBus barbecue! This is our very first fundraising event, and we’re excited for a day full of fun for kids and adults alike.
We converge on the only beach on the East Side of Manhattan for Soul on a Roll (pulled pork or tofu sandwiches featuring fat back daddy BBQ sauce), Cornbread au Natural, a Sin Bar (beer, wine, ice cream and Brownies), plus kosher hot dogs, and other tasty goodies. The day will also feature live entertainment from Rachel & Jason Trachtenberg, Just Puppets, Stefan Yeah!, and the Life After Shopping Gospel Choir, as well as educational activities on board the BioBus.
Custom BioBus t-shirts and buttons will be available for purchase.
Buying Tickets: Tickets are $25 at the door for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. $15 discount tickets are available for students with ID and BioBus volunteers.
Getting There: Solar One is about a 10 minute walk from the closest subway stations, but the area is also serviced by several bus lines.
By Subway & Bus: take the (6) to 23rd St. and the M23 east to Avenue C *or* take the (L) to 1st Ave and walk about 10 minutes to the site or take the M15 north to 23rd St. and walk along East 23rd St. The M16 and M21 buses also stops near E. 23rd St. and Avenue C.
By Car: We are accessible from East 23rd St, driving east. Pass under the FDR, as if you are going to the Gulf gas station. Solar One is just south of the Gulf station, along the service road. From the North via FDR Drive, exit at 23rd St. and make a left at the traffic light as if you are heading to the gas station. From the South via FDR Drive, exit at 20th-23rd Sts., follow Avenue C to the light at 23rd. St and turn right as if you are going into the gas station.
Parking: Solar One is not able to offer parking to visitors. There is a paid lot under the FDR Drive and street parking available in the surrounding neighborhoods, though the search for spaces can be competitive. We recommend taking mass transit whenever possible.
Accessibility: Solar One is wheelchair accessible, and wheelchair accessible bathrooms are available.
